Wipe Solution Recipes
Many people who use real nappies use reusable wipes, instead of disposables. You can save quite a bit of money and they are great for babies with sensitive skin- no harsh chemicals. They are made from a variety of materials, often with an absorbent material on one side and fleece on the other. Some people just use cheap flannels, or even make their own out of an old towel. Becareful though, don't make them too small. I have had one caught in my washing machine before!
I personally just use water on my wipes. I wet about 5 or 6 and put them in a wipes wet bag (bought from here: http://www.thenappysite.co.uk/wahm-debbies-nappies/ ). I find this easily enough for a day. I take out wet wipes with me in my changing bag too. Others prefer to carry their wipes around dry, and take a small spray bottle around with them (with either water or a wipes solution in), and just wet the wipes as they are needed. You do whatever is easiest for you.
If you feel that you would like to make a solution for increase cleaning and lovely smells, you could try one of these recipes. These can be mixed in a bottle and tipped over your wipes in a plastic tub. I wouldn't make up too many. I find they start to smell a little mildewy after about 2-3 days. You could put in a spray bottle instead.
Recipe One:
1 1/2 cups of warm water
2 tablespoons of baby or olive oil
2 tablespoons of baby wash (some sort of liquid baby soap)
Recipe Two:
Just a cup of honey and camomile tea can make a lovely, soothing wipe solution.
Recipe Three:
2 Camomile tea bags
2 teaspoons of almond or baby oil
a drop of lavender oil
2 mugs of water.
These can of course be adapted to suit your own tastes, for example an essential oil could be added- be aware that some oils are quite harsh, so you may need to get advise- I have used lavender and tea tree without problems. If you have any other recipes you would like to share, please email me and I will add them to the list!
