The Patapum Baby Carrier

The Patapum Baby Carrier is a comfortable and very affordable lightweight pack-style carrier. The Patapum has a wide waistband and rucksack style straps with a chest strap to stop the shoulder straps from slipping. Ideal for carrying heavy toddlers, the weight of the child is felt mainly on your hips so you can carry them for long periods in comfort.

Your baby is held with their legs wide apart with their back well supported. This is the optimal position for healthy growth of the pelvis and spine. It is suitable for babies from around the age of 5 months up to 40lb. The manufacturer recommends up to 18 months but it is perfectly possible and safe to use this carrier for longer (2-3 years depending on the size and weight of your child).

The fabric is durable 100% cotton, apart from a soft polyester jersey which is used on the inside of the waist and shoulder straps for extra comfort. There is no padding in the body of the carrier so it is cool for you and your baby and packs up small for travelling.

Kari-me Baby Carrier

The Kari-me is a UK manufactured wrap around carrier based on the traditional design but using a modern fabric. It is made of 90% cotton with a touch of lycra so is stretchy and snug fitting once tied in place. The softness and stretch of the Kari me fabric makes this a particularly lovely sling to use with a newborn.

The fabric of the Kari me is widest in the middle (70cm approx) and then tapers towards the ends to make for easier tying. One size fits all with this sling; if you are smaller you can tuck the ends out of the way after tying. The wrap is 5m long approx which will be long enough for most people.

Because of the nature of the fabric you need to tie the Kari-me on quite tightly so it fits you closely before you put the baby in. It then provides a lovely supportive and snug carry, which is very comfortable for both of you.

The Kari me has 5 carrying positions: cradle hold, upright facing in, upright facing out, on the hip and on the back.

The Maya Wrap

From Maya Wrap in the US the Maya Padded Sling has just a touch of padding in the shoulder for your comfort yet is still cool to wear and isn't bulky. Made from the same beautiful woven Guatemalan cotton as the original Maya Wrap (see below), this is a really lovely sling and is easy to use and adjust.

The rings in the Maya Padded Sling are made of aluminium which is light-weight and grips the fabric well. There is a handy pocket on the tail of the sling which fastens with a zip.

As with all ring slings the Maya Padded Sling can be used in a variety of positions depending on the age and preference of your baby. The Maya Padded Sling is ideal to use from birth; but spreads the weight very effectively across the shoulder and back, so is suitable for using with older babies and toddlers too.

The Maya Padded Sling comes with both a basic sheet of instructions and detailed DVD instructions included.

The Close Baby Carrier

The Close Baby Carrier is an ingenious design which manages to combine the comfort and weight distribution of a wrap, with the adjustability and ease of use of a ring sling. We anticipate this becoming a very popular sling as it ticks all the boxes!

 

The Close Baby Carrier consists of two sashes of fabric which cross over in the back and the front. You slip it over your head to wear. It then adjusts through rings by your hips so you can pull it as tight as you need for comfort and security.

The cross back of the Close Baby Carrier gives excellent weight distribution and the soft stretch fabric and adjustability supports your baby safely and comfortably.
